James Madison Tipton was sick for several years as a young man and spent most of his time inthe open air. It was supposed that he had T. B. He was 31 when he married and for 17 years he hauled Freight between the freight depot and store in Floresville, Texas. He loanded a friend money to establish a Store in Westbrook, Texas, and about 1908 they moved to Westbrook by wagon,. It took three weeks to go about 300 miles. "James loved to camp out." After three years they moved to Floresville, where Jmaes worked for the city for 25 years. He was friendly, dependable and unafraid, a hard worker and saved out of his income.
