10:45:03 AM Monday, August 4, 2003 Bessie Tipton Bessie (Cole) Tipton, 100, who was making her home with her daughter, Beulah (Tipton) Wyatt of Union City, died July 31, 2003, at 12:45 p.m. at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City after suffering a stroke.Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Tiptonville First Baptist Church, with burial following in Tiptonville City Cemetery. The Rev. Andy Martin will officiate. Pallbearers will be Terry Jamison III, Jamie Wyatt, Jason Beard, Jack Richardson Wyatt III, H.C. Tipton and Walter Roberts. Friends may call at Dyersburg Funeral Home's Tiptonville chapel Saturday from 6-8 p.m. The family requests that memorials be made to Tiptonville First Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice. Mrs. Tipton was born July 11, 1903, in Gibson County, daughter of the late Sidney L. and Inez (Boyd) Cole. She was a 1923 graduate of Peabody High School in Trenton. She was a longtime and very active member of First Baptist Church of Tiptonville. She had taught a women's Sunday school class for more than 30 years and was a member of the Woman's Missionary Union. In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Tipton is survived by her son, H.L. Tipton of Las Cruces, N.M.; five grandchildren, Jim Wyatt of Brighton, Melinda Wyatt of Jackson, Mike Wyatt of Shalimar, Fla., Jack Richardson Wyatt of Columbia, S.C., and Lana (Tipton) Smith of Las Cruces; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and her sister, Maybelle Higgins of Richmond, Va.She was also preceded in death by her husband, H.L. Tipton Sr., who died in 1972; three brothers and two sisters; and two great-granddaughters, Katelin Wyatt and Megan Wyatt.
