James Tipton continued to live in the double log cabin built by hid father. The story goes, that a neighbor boy asked him James if he would get a marriage license at the County Seat, for the neighbor boy and Mary Gray. James went to Mary's house and told her that if she would agree, he would get the license for her and himself. She agreed,and they were married on Washington Birthday Febr. 22 1811.
JAMES TIPTON made his will April 8, 1856, and it was recorded October 2, 1856

WILLIAM G. TIPTON received a tract of land, 47 1/3 acres willed to him at $12
an acre $670.00). He also received a negro valued at $200. JOSHUA TIPTON\
received a slave valued at $1000. JOSEPH F. TIPTON received a slave valujed at
$1000. HALL received a slave valued at $1000. Mrs. WHITSON's receipt for
$1000. R. L. BUMPASS's receipt for $500. Mrs. HODYSHALL's receipt for $500 and
she received a slave valued at $500. HARRISON TIPTON owes his excess of $1000
to J. F. TIPTON. Miss MARGARET TIPTON received a negro boy, Luke, at $500. She
will be entitled to receive after her mother's death, $100. [Q&ES, 1858-1863,

executors. This settlement includes the statement that land and property went
to the widow during her life and thereafter it was sold, August 25, 1859. J.

MARY TIPTON, widow of JAMES TIPTON, was dead nu August 1, 1859, when JAMES F.
TIPTON and E. M. HALL were aptd admrs, with WILLIAM LILLARD and J. M. McLAREN
