He was in the log and lumber business and very strong man, unsusally so. The Story is told of how at one time he had three men working for him, and he asked them to load a large log while he was at dinner. When he returned he found the men sitting down and when he asked them why they had not loaded the log, they said it was too heavey, they could not budge it. some what disturded, he exclaimed, "Do I have to pay men to do my work and then do it for them? give me the can-hook and I'll load it for you!" He caught the hook on the log and pulling the hickory handle broke, where upon, he cut a hickory sapling near by fitting it into the can-hook and loaded the log alone. He then said, I'll wager I can throw the three of you all at one time, When they refused to wager for a days work, he said. "lets wrestle for the fun of it." All three rushed him and he piled them all on the ground.
