He was educated at Sweetwater Military Academy, now Tennessee Military Institute from which he graduated; and at the University of Virginia where in his third year he was injured in the annual foot ball game between the University of Virginia and the University of North Carolina.
Returning home he studied law, but being pressed accepted the management of the Eagle Flouring Mill at Sweetwater which he successfully operated for several years.
After a brief experience as a homesteader, in the newly opened lands of Wyoming he returned to Sweetwater to become manager of his father's estate which he conducted aslong with his business as agent for the Henry Ford Company in that vininity.

Mr. Jones was associated with his father in the harware business, later forming the firn, Guthrie, Bradley & jones Hardware Company of which he is a partner though he is active head of the Swetwater Hosiery Mills since the death of his brother, John McClung Jones.
He is also the largest stockholder in the O.K. Jones Grocery Compamy, and is interested financially in other industries of the section, including farming interests.
He is Elder in the Presbyterian Chuch of Sweetwater and Supperintendant of its Sunday School.

EVEN Randolph Macon Woman's College
She was born on her fathers farm five miles southeast of the city. She graduated from Randolph Macon Woman's College at Lynchburg, Virginia , june 1905, majoring in history, and since that time intensely interested in the preservation of the old records of her county, state and country.
Through East Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania she has done much reseach work, collecting Court record, family data and other orginal sourse material and has assisted in many historical publication.
On Oct 14, 1915 she was married in sweetwater, Tennessee to Robert Hounton Sticley, an attorney at law of Memphis, Tennessee, who was born near Madisonville, Tennessee, a son of Vastine Stickley and his wife Josephine Elliott; since 1905 R. H. Stickley has resided in Mimphis Tennessee where he is held in highest regard and has occupied many positions of trust, being at various times, Judge of Municipal Court. Judge and mrs. Stickley spend much time at his ancestral home in Madisonville, Tennessee.
They are members of the memphis Countru Club and Various other civil organizations.
She was an organizing member of the John C. Vaugn Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She is also an active member in other Clubs and Societies;- The Memphis Woman's Club, The Memphis Glass Collector's Club, The National Early American Glass Club, The national Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and also as member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of American, assisting in their newest and mosr valuable contribution to the preservation of un-published manuscripts, letters and News paper files of long ago by the process of micro-filing.
Mrs. Nancy E. J. Stickley has been of Valuable assistance in compiling of this Tipton family history; she has been searching for Tipton data for seval years and generously offered her file to the Author of The Book "THE TIPTON FAMILY HISTORY" by W. Hord Tipton.

William being a son of the Old Exeter N. H. family and hbis wife, Julia Bouton descendant of the Crockett-Peery. For many years W. D. Gilmam Jr. was associated with his father in the Bares business in Sweetwater to which place the family had moved from Baltimore, Maryland about 1904, in 1912 W. D. Gilman Jr. moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee wehere he established the Gilman Paint and Varnish Company of which still is President and Manager. Later he brought one of the controlling interests in the Mobile Paint and Varn ish Company and is now Persident and Co-manager of this large Plant.
W. D. Gilman Jr. was educated in Kansas City Schools and at the New York Military Acdemy.

C. and continued her musical traning under Mme Elisa Angier of the royal Italian Conservatiory of Music Milan Italy; teaching voice culture in New York City.
