Katherine is a descendant of Governor John Sevier. This marriage united two opposing leaders of the Tipton-Sevier troubled over the short lived State of Frankland. Mr Jones was educated at Sweetwater Military Academy, and very early became associated with the Bank of Sweetwater which he later to direct as President and Cashier. He is an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and associated with philanthropical and civil enterprises of the town.

After her education in the Sweetwater Female College, she studied in Conservatory of Music at Chicago under Signor Victor Carpi and later under Mme Campiani in New York City and returned home giving to her home people and friends freely the joy of her lovely bell like voice and its years of excellent training under the foremost teachers in America.
On June 14, 1905 at the hopme of her parents in Sweetwater she was married to Fred Afton Carter, President and General Manager of the Sweetwater Wollen Mills and Secretary- Treasurer and General Manager Textile Woolen Compant one of the foremost men of the community in religious, social sand business lines; Stewart of the Methodist Church and Superintendent of the Sundau School for Forty years.
