From Washington University he graduated in both Law and Manual Training, Practiced law in St. Louis soon became assistant Circuit Attorney for St. Louis, occupying that position from January 1897 to December 1900.
In 1903 he became City Attorney for Webster Groves Missouri and remained so for ten years, when he was a candidate for missouri Legislature from St. Louis County. In 1914 he was elected Probate Judge of St. Louis, County his residence remained at Webster Groves.
