Obituary: VANCE B. TIPTON DIES (date written on Oct. 1, 1936) Vance Bush Tipton, one of the pioneer citizens of this county passed away at the Hodges Hospital last Thursday following several month's illness. Mr. Tipton was born and reared in this county but for the past few years had lived in Mobile where he was employed by the Card Lumber Co. He was a trusted employee of this firm for about 40 years. He was a man of the highest character and integrity and greatly loved and admired by a large circle of friends. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. J.D. Tiffin of this place. The funeral was preached by Rev. J.F. Sturdivant of the local Methodist Church and interment was made in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Supplied by Nancy (Chee Chee) Webb
Benjamin may have been actually named Joseph Benjamin or Benjamin Joseph according to Ellen Norris and the 1920 Colorado Census. NOTE: Per Ellen Norris,, email dated 5/8/99, she received a copy of notes taken from Allie May Norris Sing's Family Record. She states that the notes show that Benjamin Joseph Norris and Mary Elizabeth Tipton were married on Jan 1, 1873 and were the parents of: J.E. 1874 M.B. 1876 R.E. 1878 H.M. 1880 (obviously Hardy Melvin Norris) W.B. 1883 (obviously William Bruster Norris) J.W. 1885 It is unknown if these initials are for females or males, with the exception of Hardy and William.
Census:: 1920, Colorado Census lists Benjamin as being Joseph B. (could be Benjamin?), living with his son William and being 80 yrs old.
When both parents died William H. Tipton raised Rachel,
and the Norris raised Bruce

There were more than two children by this union. Mary Elizabeth did die
rather young, however, Benjamin Joseph lived to a ripe old age(unlike the
reference in your site and the book that he and his wife both died
and left the two children to the grandparents). the child Bruce
,referred it in your site was my husband's grandfather.

Samuel Caten was born in Illinois and moved to Randolph County Arkansas in 1866 and
lived in Phocohantas a number of year; Was Sheriff in 1896 He then own a few hundred acres in Cherokee Bay. He was in Tec Mercantile business until 1925 He died Oct 26 1936 at the age of 77.
