Located in Cades Cove, this church was organized June 16, 1827 and was the oldest church in the cove. It is the oldest and largest cemetery now in Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
After the death of his first wife, John Jacob returned to Blount County, Tennessee, with the three year old son, Nathaniel Hampton, leaving the other children in Missouri with grandparents and other relatives. In 1854 he married Naomi Abbott, a daughter of the Rev. Absolom Abbott, of Tuckaleechee Cove and Cades Cove.
