OCCU a miner
The state's worst mining disaster occurred on November 3, 1926, when the Barnes-Hecker mine near Ishpeming suddenly flooded. Working hundreds of feet beneath the surface of the earth, 51 miners were trapped and died that day. The Barnes-Hecker flooded within ten minutes from the first notion that anything was wrong. Only one man survived the tragedy of that day. This became the third worst mine disaster, not in a coal mine, in the United States.

The bride, wearing abecoming gown of blue silk taffeta, entered on the arm of her eldestbrother, Walter, who gave her away. The bride's attendants were MissFlosbact L. EARL ELLERSICK (1st Husband) Buried in Barnes & Hecker Iron Mine(Ishpeming, MI) with Richard & George Lampshire 3 Nov 1926 - killed inmine cave-in. Second husband: GEORGE NORMAN ELLERSICK. George and Sadiehad little to do with the family after they married. A brother-in-lawmarrying his sister-in-law was frowned upon. It is believed Georgemarried Sadie because he felt he was entitled to his brother's benefitsthat she collected from the mine cave-in.
According to family members, Norman felt he was entitled to his brother Earl's death benefits. He married his brother's widow and never worked another day in his life. The Lampshire and Jenkins families refused to have anything to do with him.
