"Girl Dies After Truck Overturns
"Iron River, Aug. 15, 1947"Her neck broken, Miss Lila Johnson, Iron River High School senior and 17 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnson, Forbes Location in Mineral Hills, died instantly, and three other were injured at about 2:45 yesterday afternoon when a pick-up truck in which they were riding overturned on County highway A, a quarter-mile north of Tipler, Wis.
"The Misses Larayne Ross and Helen Frantti, both 17, and also seniors in the high school, are in the Stambaugh hospital where it was reported this morning their condition is not critical.
"William Kennedy, 18 year-old Chicago youth, driver of the truck and guest at the Klok resort at Stevens Lake, near Tipler, where the three girls were employed as waitresses, escaped with only bruises.
"The accident occurred, Sheriff Glen Church, of Florence County said, when the truck, with Kennedy at the wheel, was making a sharp turn near the North Western railroad crossing at Tipler. The truck suddenly swerved to the right of the road and overturned, plunging down an embankment and coming to rest against a large boulder.
"Pinned Under Car
"Miss Johnson, seated at the extreme right, was pinned between the car and the boulder. The others were piled on top of her. The young girl was pronounced dead by Dr. C. A. Cooper, of Stambaugh, after being taken there.
"Miss Ross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Ross, suffered a concussion of the brain and bruises of the face and body. Miss Frantti, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vieno Frantti, suffered a chest injury, the extent of which will be determined by X-ray examination today.
"Kennedy was driving a pick-up truck owned by Klok resort and had permission to use it, Sheriff Church said. He and the three girls had gone to the Tipler post office and store to get mail and provisions for the resort. They were on their way back to the resort when the accident occurred.
"Sheriff Church said he and Coroner Peters, of Florence, are still investigating the accident.
"Miss Johnson completed her junior year at Iron River High last June.
"Besides her parents, she leaves two sisters, Betty Lou and Pauline, and three brothers, John, William and Robert. She also is survived by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jenkins, of Flint, formerly of Mineral Hills.
"The body is at the Johns Funeral home. Services will be conducted there at 1:45 p.m., Monday and at 2 at the Methodist church. Rev. C. E. Parlin of Crystal Falls officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery."

She also leaves hergrandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jenkins, former Mineral Hills residents who are now living in Flint.
"Others Recovering
"Three other occupants of the Klok Bros. resort pickup which rolled into the ditch on County A are recovering from minor injuries, the Misses Larayne Ross and Helen Frantti, both 17 and IRHS seniors, and William Kennedy, 18, of Chicago, guest at the resort who was driving the truck.
"Kennedy had volunteered to drive in to Tipler from the Stevenslake resort to get mail and provisions. The three Iron River girls, waitresses for the season at Klok's, agreed to accompany him. They were returning from Tipler at 2:45 p.m. Iron River time when Kennedy lost control of the truck. The vehicle was making a sharp turn just before reaching the North Western railway crossing one-quarter mile north of thevillage.
"Kennedy moved over to shut the door more securely and accidentally shifted the steering wheel, causing the truck to lurch on tothe soft shoulder gravel and roll over, down a four-foot embankment and coming to rest against a big boulder. "WAS A REAL PIONEER
"Edward Blee in Sight of 87th Birthday is Summoned"Death came rather unexpectedly Thursday afternoon to Edward Blee, who would have been 87 years of age next month. Notwithstanding his advanced years, Mr. Blee had continued to enjoy good health; it having been only for a couple of days preceding his death that he was indisposed. Mr. Blee had retained his faculties to the last and it is seldom that one is found whose memory remains as clear as did his regarding events of the town's early days. Talking over "old times" had been one of his chief delights in latter years. His career was also remarkable in that there are left fifty grand children and seventy-five great grand children to perpetuate the family name, while two great great grandchildren form the beginning of still another generation.
"Edward Blee was born in England on May 10, 1841 and he came to the United States in 1868. He first found employment in New Jersey, but soon decided to try his fortune in the Lake Superior country. He was employed for many years in the mines on the Cascade Range, in Ishpeming and in Negaunee, and his residence in the last named community covered almost half a century. He served a term as city treasurer in 1922-3.
"Mr. Blee's wife preceded him in death by about eleven years, and fors ome time past he had made his home with one of the daughters, Mrs. Ola Johnson in the Teal Lake location. In addition to the latter, there survive four daughters and one son - Mrs. William J. Neely and James Blee, Negaunee; Mrs. Thomas Lampshire

CAUS Heart Disease
Obituary - Peter PetersonNegaunee Iron Herald
"Friday March 30, 1923"Peter Peterson, a native of Denmark, who came to this country as a young man and who had resided in and about Negaunee for nearly half a century, passed away at 11 o'clock last Friday morning at Hibbing, Minn., where he had made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Richard Frisk, for the past couple of years. Mr. Peterson had a particularly rugged physique throughout his active years, but his health had gradually failed, and his demise last Friday ended a lingering illness, heart disease being the immediate cause of death. Deceased was 75 years of age.
"Mr. Peterson had spent some twenty-five years as a resident of Palmer, where he was in the employ of the Kirkpatrick family. For the greater part of this period he drove the team for the general store in the neighboring hamlet and made daily trips to Negaunee, one of his duties being the carrying of the mail. This was long before the development of the rural carrier system, but Mr. Peterson anticipated the service by carrying mail for people along the route as a personal accommodation.
"Finally giving up the task at Palmer, Mr. Peterson came to Negaunee to reside some fifteen years ago. His wife passed away four years later and he continued to reside in this vicinity until three years ago, when he removed to Hibbing.
"Following a short service at the Frisk home in Hibbing on the 24th inst. the remains were brought to Negaunee and taken to the home of oneof his daughters, Mrs. William E. Goodman, 104 Cyr street. Funeral services were conducted at St. John's Episcopal Church Tuesday.
"Mr. Peterson is survived by ten children, six of whom were able to be with their father when he passed away. The surviving children are: Mrs.William E. Goodman and Edward Peterson, Negaunee: Chester Peterson, Detroit: George, Ann Arbor: Thomas, Eveleth, Minn.: Mrs. Richard Frisk, Ruth, Elmer and Walter Peterson, Hibbing: and Mrs. T. H. Goldsworthy,Santa Rita, N. M. Thirteen grandchildren also survive.
The 1910 census lists Ellen as having had 12 children, 10 living, and there is a gap of 5 years that is unaccounted for. There may be more children which did not survice infancy.
