William and Priscilla were married in 1849 and at the time of the 1851 census were resident in St Erme. Also resident in the village at that time was his younger sister Grace, her husband Henry Keast and their first daughter Eliza. Grace's brothers-in-law James Keast and Henry Keast were both miners who emigrated to the USA in the 1880's.
William J and Priscilla Rodgers left England July 2, 1851 bound for Apple River, JoDaviess County, Illinois. The trip took 2 months of which time they could only see land for 2 weeks.
William went to California in April 1860, but almost immediately was prostrated by an attack of rheumatism on account of which he returned home in the autumn of the same year.
They lived in that Illinois and in Wisconsin nearby until they moved to Kansas in the autumn of 1875 to a farm near Gypsum in Saline County.
They resided in Saline County for many years, were well known and had many friends.
William was survived by 3 sons and 4 daughters and his widow. One son and 2 daughters died in infancy.
