Notes

Elizabeth RIPPER

Elizabeth is mentioned as a beneficiary in the will of her brother Daniel as 'my sister Elizabeth Dellerygetto'.

Henry RIPPER

Henry is recorded on the IGI as Nobye.

Edward DELARAGETTO

Edward's mother's brother Daniel RIPPER, bequests money to Edward his 'cousin' in his will.

John REPPER

John's baptism is recorded on the Bishop's Transcripts as 5 May 1681 & 6 May 1681.

At the baptism of his son (also called John) on 7 September, John is recorded as being John Repper alias Singer.  This also occurs at the baptism of his second son, also named John in 1710. The epithet has been suggested to have indicated a capability or willingness to sing. No place name or other local surname resembling Singer has been found.

In 1725 John is names as an executor to the estate of his uncle Daniel, without being a beneficiary. He is obliged to maintain the estate along with Daniel's wife, Charity until her death. It is possible that John inherited the bulk of the estate upon her death in 1734.

The Godolphin papers (GO/292) show a lease to John Ripper of Breage dated 1 Jun 1741, when John was 60 years old, in consideration of £25 of a house in Breage on the lives of Robert Marks of Breage (23) cooper, and Richard Goninan of Breage (7), reversionary after the death of Sarah Williams (widow).

Robert Marks was baptised in Breage on 19 May 1717, the son of Thomas Marks and his wife Orpah (nee Polkinhorne). No marriage for Robert has been traced.

Richard Goninan was baptised on 28 December 1734 at Breage. His parents were Richard Gonynnon (bp 6 Jan 1707) and Jane Ripper who married on 28 November 1730 in Breage. This marriage warrants closer inspection. The IGI does not reveal any Jane Ripper who was born in the period 1695 to 1715. It may be that the name of Jane is incorrect or her baptism has not been spotted by transcribers. The family relationship of Jane to John could open up a new line of enquiry, especially if Jane is John's daughter.

Sarah Wiliams has not been traced.
