Emma's baptism may be on Christams Day 1836.

Phillip RIPPER

At the baptism of son John, the parents are recorded as millers of Trewithen.

On the 1881 census, his wife Jane is recorded as being a widow.

Flora Cook (nee Ripper) says John was born at Lower Trewithen.

Flora also recounted that Phillip had 7 children. Phillip caught a fever and died within two weeks. A week later two of his sons died. On the day they were buried his twin daughters died leaving Jane with John (10) and William Henry (8) & Sara (6).


Jane BOLITHO

In a letter from Flora Cook she says:
"My grandmother was a Jane Blytho (sic); she lived on a farm in Helston; she was the daughter of a younger son; the real family home was between Helston and Penzance; in 1930 one of the family was the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall." No evidence has yet been found to link the family with the Lord Lieutenants of Cornwall.

In the 1881 census Jane was a widow aged 52 living at St Stithians; she gave her occupation as a housekeeper.


John RIPPER

In the 1881 census John is listed as a tin miner in Stithians, aged 25, the head of house being Jane Ripper, his mother; he was unmarried.

Edith Croydon RIPPER

In the 1881 census Edith is listed at home, aged 16, with her mother.
